Port Eynon / Horton
These adjoining beaches are very imposing and offer fabulous stretches of golden sand. Both beaches are backed by dunes, and although there is a lot of exposed rock on this rugged coastline, there is more than enough sand to built a castle or two, even at high tide. Port Eynon can get some good surf too, and is a fantastic family beach.
There are some nice walks around the winding paths of the National Trust-owned limsetone headland, Port Eynon Point, and there are also the remains of the eighteenth century salt house to observe off shore. Riddled with history, this building designed to extract salt from the sea was once the haunt of smugglers.
There are nearby shops open in high season, and the beach also has disabled access.
