Pwll Du Bay
Pwll Du is one of the most secluded beaches on Gower, situated about 25 minutes from the village of Bishopston. Welsh for "black pool", "Pwll Du" is an almost circular cove at the edge of Bishopston Valley. Sheltered from high cliffs on either side, the bay is protected from the wind.
It?s a great place to sunbathe or picnic; because of its remoteness its never crowded. Its also one of the safest places to swim in Gower, protected from rough currents by the rock formation at the western end of the bay.
Remember to take your packed lunch if you plan to be there all day, as there arent any places to buy nearby, or toilets for that matter! But dont let that put you off a visit to this rugged beauty. This is ideal for those whod prefer more than just a trip across a car park to the beach.
Access to the beach is a 25 minute walk from Brandy Cove, (a small, sheltered bay, once the haunt of smugglers) which you can reach by walking through the wooded path from Bishopston village, where youll be able to park and indulge in a Joes Ice-cream from the local post office. Alternatively, the bay can be reached from Pennard which will take approximately an hours walk.
