Swansea Bay
The sandy 6-mile curve of Swansea bay lines the city with opportunity for sunning, sandcastle-building and fishing. Any position around the Bay affords a spectacular view, either of towards Mumbles Point or the city, and on a clear day even Devon can be seen across the Bristol channel.
Starting with the Blue Flag awarded Marina - the only one in Wales - to Brynmill there is some fantastic beach space with soft sand . Attractions include a wooden ship climbing frame on the beach towards Brynmill, a Lido and The Junction cafe at Blackpill Towards Mumbles the beach becomes more pebbly and less suitable for sunbathing, but is a great vantage point for views and of course the bustling sea-side village of Mumbles.
A promenade lines the bay, and a stroll from one end of the bay to the other will take about 2 hours. There is a lane dedicated to bicycles and all things with wheely - bring your roller blades, scooter or unicyle if you fancy!
The bay is often used for watersports (link to Swansea Bay Watersports in Activities section) during the summer months, so whether you want to watch or participate, it's the place to be. The Bay is also popular for fishing, particularly at Knab Rock and Mumbles Pier where there is a large bass target.
For accommodation across the bay, see our Swansea Hotel Guide.
