The Fair Trade and Upcycled Fashion Show on March 5th at the National Waterfront Museum will be a great chance to find out about clothes and accessories that do not cost the earth. Fair trade fashion is getting big with many small local boutique fashion houses springing up, joining the already well established national retailers like Bishopston Trading and Traidcraft. Come along and see how great you too can look in fashion that cares. Last week, would be fashion designers spent a couple of days at the Centre producing a special collection of "Upcycled clothes" for the show, Upcycled fashion is old clothes given a new lease of life with a little crafty know how. The show will also feature members of Christwell church, who will be making their modelling debus alongside some of the area's up and coming professional models. Plus you can see how you too can wear te vintage look that is so popular with celebrities at the moment. So if you care how you look and how what you wear can affect others and the environment, then our fashion show is the place to be. Sat 5th | Gower Walking Festival at All over Gower, Mumbles, Swansea and a bit further afield
The 2010 Gower Walking Festival, taking place between 5 and 21June, will be the biggest yet. Organised by the not-for-profit Mumbles Tourist Association, there will be 55 guided walks on the programme, spread out over sixteen days in (hopefully) flaming June, around glorious Gower, Mumbles and other local settings. And not just traditional walks such as the Gower Gallop, the six-stage Round Gower walks, and the walk right to the nose of the Worms Head, but walks with Apps! The Festival will kick off with Birds! an ornithological walk to listen to the Dawn Chorus, (an early start), and end with Bats!, an evening opportunity to enter the inaudible world of the bat in little-known Peel Wood, with Steve Lucas of the Bat Conservation Trust. In between, you can learn to Nordic Walk, one of the fastest growing exercise sports in Britain, have an Archaeological walk around Llanmadoc, experience Coasteering and Bushcraft, discover Dylan Thomas and Old Swansea, improve your photography, link with literature, make a Sea Shore Safari and maybe even find love by going on the Speed-Dating Walk! There are guided walks for all, and many of the walks will suit families, especially the Mumbles Treasure Trail. Once again, there will be a Photography Competition with all walk participants eligible to enter. Gower Welsh Assembly member, Edwina Hart, will officially open the Festival with the ‘Bay Walk for the Visually Impaired’ at 2pm on Saturday 5 June, 2010, at Blackpill....more info
